It Just Makes Scents - Scent Detection/K9 Nose Work
We are now offering Nose Work classes for you and your dog taught by a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI™) through the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW). If your dog is fearful, timid, shy, playful, energetic, reactive, blind, deaf, arthritic, or recovering from an injury, then Nose Work is for them!
We hold memberships with Sporting Detection Dogs Association (SDDA), National Association of Canine Scent Work(NACSW) and United Kennel Club (UKC) and support students participation in trials or events under these and other upcoming organizations.
For the fearful and reactive dogs it's a great addition to a behavior modification program. It helps reactive dogs ignore their environment and stay focused, remaining on task doing their job. Nose work is also helpful in building confidence in fearful dogs. The dogs run completely individual so there are no other dogs in the search area or on the sidelines.
Inspired by working detection dogs, Nose Work is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.
Nose Work starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite treat or toy reward hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. As your dog grows more confident with his nose, target odors are introduced, and competition skills are taught.
Prepare for a lifetime of fun with your dog and scent detection!
We offer a variety of classes to fit whatever level you and your canine partner are working at. Private consults are also available upon request.
In compliance with the Government of Alberta’s enhanced public health measures announced May 4th, 2021, we will be pausing all operations as of Sunday, May 9th at midnight.
Once the enhanced measures are lifted, classes will resume where they were paused.
We will inform all current students by email with new dates when classes are able to resume.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, stay safe!
