Classes

Foundation Scent Detection class introduces the concept of the game. This class will build on your dogs natural ability to hunt for odour (food/ and or essential oil) all while helping build confidence. In this class we will work on building foundation. Fearful dogs will also enjoy this class as dogs work individually so they will not meet or see other one another. Click on link to go to the Registration page to register for this class.

The Novice Scent Detection class builds on the Foundation Class, builds handler observation skills and timing, and gets the dogs focused. This class advances the dog’s scent discrimination skills and will continue to strengthen the dogs indication. Additionally, we introduce techniques and tactics for building better dog/handler teamwork. 

Prerequisite: Dogs must have taken the Foundation class or an equivalent class.

Exteriors and Vehicles is for dogs that have completed the Intro to Odor class and have met minimum proficiency in finding their initial target odor. This class will continue to develop handler skills and will focus on Vehicle searches and Exterior Searches. 

Prerequisite:  Dogs must be on odor for this class and  be comfortable in booties for vehicle searches.

The Advanced Scent Detection class is designed for the experienced teams and will expand both the handler's and the dog's understanding of the target odours and the concepts of nose work. This class is geared towards advanced handling and off-leash work. The teams will learn to navigate more intricate and challenging training scenarios and focus on containers, interiors, distractors and air flow. Excellent Scent Detection class is designed for teams working towards higher competition levels. The teams will focus on training multiple room searches as per SDDA interiors, containers. As well you will also learn different ways how to read what your dog is telling you about odour. Click on link to go to the Registration page to register for this class.

Competition Elite Scent Detection class is designed for teams working towards Elite level training. The teams will focus on unknown number of hides, converging odour, time pressure, distractors., etc Click on link to go to the Registration page to register for this class.

​​​​Continuing Exteriors and Vehicles is for dogs that have completed the Intro to Exterior and Vehicle class. This class will continue to develop dog and handler skills and will focus on air movement for the Vehicle and Exterior Searches. 

Prerequisite:  Dogs must be comfortable in booties for vehicle searches.
